Bishop Sutton Library volunteers recognised for their efforts – 2020
During a surprise visit to Bishop Sutton Community Library, representatives from the Council and the Volunteer Service, Virgin Care BANES presented the library volunteers with the Volunteer Team of the Year Award. Every year Bath and North East Somerset Community Awards celebrate volunteers, charities, carers, community leaders, staff and businesses. This year the event was due to be held at the Assembly Rooms in March, however it was cancelled due to the coronavirus and so the award announcements are being made virtually instead. The council has had to adapt and in this case it means holding virtual award announcements.
B&NES Council, along with its partners have been surprising other Award winners by holding virtual zoom meetings, telephone calls and visits, where appropriate, to recognise those unsung heroes who make a positive contribution to their communities. Councillor Dine Romero, council leader, said; “Like all events the Community Award ceremony has been affected by the impact of the coronavirus. The annual event is an important celebration of the people who are most dedicated to our community but whose work often goes unrecognised. Over the past six months the importance of volunteers and community champions has really risen to the forefront. So many people have stepped up and helped out during the lockdown and continue to do so as we adapt to a ‘new normal’.”
Their nominee, Joanne Bryant said “The team has demonstrated that volunteering really is the essence of life and success. As well as giving their time, the volunteers who run this library give their heart and soul. They are the very fibre of the library and continue to drive its development and further growth day by day.”
